Poppy Seeds for Sale - Brighten Containers by Using Poppies

Bring blooms to windowsills, porches, and patios

One of the best ways to use poppy seeds for sale is to incorporate them into containers and window boxes. While many varieties of poppy flowers can be used throughout the garden in beds, borders, and rock gardens, there are a great number of species which are fantastic for container displays. Areas such as gazebos, patios, and windowsills can often look a little drab and boring. However, with the joyful colors of poppies brightening the area, a smile will be brought to any face. And what better way than to return home to a porch infected by the vibrant color of poppies.

Not all species of poppy will be suitable for containers, and perennial types such as Oriental and Meconopsis varieties should be avoided. Meanwhile, containers and boxes will look best if flowers are spilling over the edges, so tall, rigid stemmed varieties such as Breadseed and Peony poppies should also not be used.

For the best results, gardeners should use smaller varieties from the poppy family, such as dwarf, alpine, or California types. Plant up a container, window box, or even hanging basket, and make sure that there is enough drainage. This can be done by placing a layer of stones over the drainage holes to ensure that they don't become blocked with soil. Use a specific potting or container compost to ensure that there is sufficient nutrients in the soil for plants to thrive. These composts also normally include additional water gels which will help retain moisture, but if these are not present, they can be purchased and added to the soil by hand.

California poppies are ideal for hanging baskets, window boxes, or containers. In addition they come in range of wonderful colors so that gardeners can create custom displays perfect for their personal preferences. Two pots overflowing with the Apricot Chiffon, or Thai Pink Champagne and placed either side of a doorway will create a stunning sight for those arriving at your house. Meanwhile, the semi-dwarf variety of Thai Silk poppy, are a gorgeous variety that will not only brighten a patch with their colorful flowers but also their delicate silver-green leaf.

For gardeners who want to create a vibrant explosion of different colors, the use of the popular Mission Bells California poppy is perfect. Meanwhile, pairing White Linen with Carmine King will give an early spring splash of creamy white, followed by a deep rose bi-colored show later on in the season.

There are also a couple of perennial poppy varieties including the Alpine and Iceland varieties, in addition to the annual Papaver Rhoeas Shirley mix, which can also form perfect container plants.

Planted as single varieties, as poppy collections, or interspersed between other bedding and annual container plants, poppies can provide a stunning and intense burst of color to areas which are often in desperate need of lifting. A huge tub of flowers on decking at the end of the garden will draw the eye along your backyard, while window boxes will lift even the dullest of facades. And using poppy seeds for sale to add a little interest and color to your doorstep will be enjoyed by both you and your family when returning home at the end of a long day.
