However, do try them – I promise that when you succeed in flowering them, there will be celebrations and the neighbors will be invited in to see for themselves.  Coming largely true from seed is this much admired form of this type species with rich purple-violet flowers. It produces beautiful silky, 3-4 inch brilliant rich purple-violet flowers that shade garden enthusiasts really love. It needs shade, acid soil and cool, humid conditions. A very special poppy for experienced shade gardeners and collectors. However, even though tempermental, difficult, and troublesome, this is a plant worth trying. Not only will you be rewarded by the fantastic flowers, but you will be the envy of every green-fingered friend in your neck of the woods. Zones 6-9. Can be grown as an Annual in other zones.
