The four petals are vivid red, most commonly with a black spot at their base. In the northern hemisphere it generally flowers in late spring. Sweeping landscape plantings of the corn (Flander's Field poppy) and its' cousins are a knockout. These plants are true annuals.

Most poppies are very easy to grow. They are a favorite of gardeners in every state for rock gardens, flower beds, containers, and most anyplace that you want color. Since poppies are self-sowing, if you allow them to go to seed you may only need to plant them once. Sow in Fall or early Spring.
