Papaver Somniferum Poppy Seeds– Rye Beaner Poppies

A lovely lilac specimen from the Papaver Somniferum family, Rye Beaner produces an abundant number of beautiful single flowers to fill any space with color. Pale lilac petals deepen in color at the center with a large darker mark, and with the pale green pollen these flowers really are quite beautiful.

Growing very quickly and easily, this variety of Breadseed poppy will grow to a height of between two and three foot, making a wonderful structural flower to incorporate into borders and pots. Also known as the Florist Poppy, Rye Beaner loses its petals to reveal a stunning seed pod which is often dried and used in flower arranging. They are also wonderful for gardeners to leave on through the winter, catching the frosts and glinting in the weak winter sun.

An annual specimen, Rye Beaner will grow in almost all soil types, and offers an abundance of seeds at the end of the flowering season. These can be left to self seed, or collected and sown in the fall or early spring to ensure a fresh crop of flowers.
